Building Dual view in one decoder requires complex software that proved expensive and very time consuming when trying to add even the simplest new functionality. People with one tv are not forced to pay for functions they cannot or do not want to. You can add viewing environments when you need them. With extra view you can also have full functionality at a second viewing point ,Dual view did not allow for tv guide,interactive services,subtitles on tv 2. |
| How does Extra View work? | |

Decoders are linked together by way of a '"heartbeat", the heartbeat is sent from primary decoder to the secondary decoder every 30seconds. The primary decoder will communicate with no other decoder and the secondary will listen to no other decoder. If the secondary decoder loses the heartbeat for more than 30minutes it will stops working. The heartbeat is sent from and received by RF ports via a normal coax cable. With this reason , Extra view decoders have special RF ports and not all decoders can be used in extra view network. The RF cable carrying the heartbeat can also be used to carry video and audio as well as relay commands. |
